Occupying a delightful position off a private driveway, shared with the users of the adjoining boat park, the cottage is just 100 yards from the water's edge and is surrounded by open farmland. This unique location will be of particular interest to those who have their own boat which they would like to bring with them on holiday. With its private parking area next to the cottage, for car(s) and trailer, and easy entry into the water, via an excellent slipway maintained by Fowey Harbour Authority, Penmarlam Quay Cottage provides an extremely rare opportunity for guests to enjoy the sailing waters of the Fowey Estuary with the minimum of fuss. For those who prefer land based activities, the cottage will provide a wonderful base for enjoying miles and miles of superb inland and coastal footpaths many of which will be in the ownership of the National Trust. With its origins in the 14th century, this cottage of character was converted from an old stone barn some years ago and, having just changed hands, has been substantially up-graded and improved by its new owners.
From the front porch the main entrance door leads into the open plan sitting/dining room with the sitting area comfortably furnished with sofa and arm chairs, TV with Freeview, DVD player and stereo system. There is an open fire for cosy evenings during the winter months. The dining area has a large dining table with ample seating for 6 people. The kitchen includes electric cooker, dishwasher, wash/dryer, microwave and has a good selection of crockery, cutlery, glassware and utensils. Also on the ground floor is the fully tiled bathroom which includes bath, thermostatic shower over, WC, washbasin and large heated towel rail.
From the sitting room a large and unusual spiral staircase, set in a stone recess with a substantial centre post believed to be made from a ship's mast, leads to the first floor landing with doors to all bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a double bed and bedroom furniture, Bedroom 2 has 2'6" bunk beds and Bedroom 3 has 2'6" twin beds.
Outside, the garden area is grassed to one side and has a good size parking space for both cars and trailers. There is a set of good quality garden furniture. A few yards down the hill is the slipway where boats can be launched, subject to the usual payment of harbour dues etc. For further information on the use of the slip please contact Fowey Harbour Office on 01726 832471.
This charming cottage is full of character and is an ideal choice particularly for a family holiday. Dogs are welcome, by arrangement only, and at a cost of £20.00 per week.
Bed Linen included, towels not included
Electricity and heating included.
If you are bringing a boat with you and would like the use of the slipway during your stay, it is most important that you make contact with Fowey Harbour Authority at least two weeks before your arrival to discuss your requirements. They will advise you of the regulations concerning the use of the slipway and what level of payment they will require. You can contact the Harbour Office by telephone on 01726 832471 by fax on 01726 833738 or by email at fhc@foweyharbour.co.uk.
